I’ve been away, but I’ve been living in a winter wonderland.

I live in a place where it snows, quite a bit, actually, and I love it. (It’s the wind that sucks.)
Classes are getting to a point where we’re ready to take exams. I think my professors are trying to get the exams out of the way before Winter Carnival next week. I was going to participate in the VITA (volunteer income tax assistance) program, but I got a job instead. I start on Saturday. This will be my first job that has anything to do with accounting and I’m nervous, but pretty excited to get hands-on experience. I haven’t knitted much, but that’s part of my plan to help me stay on track. I’ll be really busy with a part-time job and school. I’ve been using C’s laptop because mine has been having some issues that I don’t have the know-how to fix. I’m still taking photos, but they’re fairly boring because it’s usually dark out by the time I get home and unwind.
Just a little something to stay updated. I’ll try to come back with photos of the statues from this year. I’ve volunteered to help with one of them during the all-nighter. That should be interesting, but maybe I can just play the role of photographer. ;)

C and I went to Chicago for a school trip this past weekend. We had a great time, even though it was really disorganized because the person in charge was unable to go at the last minute. I love Chicago, but I don’t think I could live there very long. Once it got dark out, my non-city self was a touch freaked out. I think it was mostly because we didn’t know how to get anywhere (the train station). I would have been much more comfortable had we had anyone who knew the city with us.

Every fall, my school hosts an expo-type event where all the organizations can set up booths and let everyone know what they’re about. As a result, we get Friday classes after noon cancelled so the students can attend K-Day (or Keweenaw Day). This marks the third year where I just went home after classes to enjoy the slightly longer weekend. Kelly and I rode bikes to class at 9 and after our only class, we rode downtown to the yarn/sew shop. I picked up a few fat quarters and some of my favorite Clover stitch markers.
Then for dinner I made chicken salad, like Cameron’s mom makes. I love it. It’s got grapes, pecans, lemon juice, and celery in it. I like to eat it with a slice of bread, homemade preferred, but Italian bread from the grocery store will do since I have yet to really try making bread.
This sock photo is misleading. I’m just finishing with the gusset decreases already. That’s what happens when I pair up handspun and an afternoon off.

Intuitive is finished. So much for keeping me occupied in class. I think it’s time to cast on for a pair of vanilla handspun socks for classes!
Tomorrow I’ll be busy nearly all day long with classes starting at 9am, a KSI meeting, and then one more night class that runs from 7-9:25. It’s a good thing I have a few hour or two breaks between most of everything.

We made the ten hour trek back to school. Other than my newly patched exhaust becoming unpatched an hour after we left (and thus began my embarrassment of driving a super loud car), the trip was good. It was mostly clear skies with fluffy clouds. Lake Michigan has never looked so appealing. I’m glad we took US-2 across the bottom of the UP, rather than M-28 across the top. Sorry, Superior, but you’re not quite superior to my beloved Lake Michigan.
We spend the last day and a half without internet, apart from my phone, so spent all day yesterday running errands with Cameron and then spinning up this FunkyCarolina roving. (Technically, combed top, Hailey!) I’ll take photos tomorrow and try to get them up here, but they will at least be up on my Flickr photostream.
